Specialist healthcare property consultant HPC has announced the sale of Appletree Care Home in Durham to specialist care provider, Cambian.
HPC acted on behalf of the freehold owner, WH Estates Ltd, in the sale of the former 57 bed home. Cambian is a major provider of specialist services in Education, Mental Health and Learning Disabilities with services for over 1,100 individuals in 60 facilities. The company will now carry out extensive refurbishment and alteration of the property to provide a specialist Mental Health rehabilitation unit for female residents. The home had previously been leased by WH Estates to a group operator which provided elderly care services.
HPC Director Ian Wilkie, who handled the sale, commented ‘this is an excellent outcome, not only for the parties involved in the transaction but also in continuing to provide care services and future employment in the local area’. Mr Wilkie added ‘recent pressure on the number of referrals from local authorities to residential homes for the elderly has called the viability of some of these into question and our clients, their tenants and Cambian are delighted to have struck a deal which provides much needed care services. This is the second sale we have concluded to Cambian in as many months and continues our strong track record of successful transactions in the specialist care sector’.
